Carolyn Ladd, America's 40s (and Miss Oregon 1991) has a chance to give current Miss Oregon Caroline McGowan some encouragement and last minutes tips at the Miss America gala.

Carolyn also had a chance to catch up with her friend and fellow competitor, Miss America 1992 Carolyn Sapp who represented Hawai`i.

America's 60s Christy Passoth had a chance to meet up with Miss Virginia USA 2012, Catherine Muldoon during the weeks activities.

Beauties of America-Texas 30s and 30s first runner-up Dr. Corine Devin joined fellow competitor America's 30s Elisa Rister, 2010 America's 50s Kathy Lauer, and 2011 America's 60s Christy Passoth as they enjoyed some of the many events during the week at Miss America.

In a first for Beauties of America, three Beauties of America's national titleholders joined together for fun and festivities at Miss America (Elisa Rister-30s, Carolyn Ladd-40s, and Christy Passoth-60s).

Viva` Las Vegas!

With three current and two former national Beauties of America titleholders attending the Miss America pageant we have had lots of great pictures and stories from our ladies! Here are a few more with the perspective from America's 30s, Elisa Rister.

Meeting up with the reigning 2011 Miss America was just one of many opportunities during the week for Elisa. Catching up with sister queens, former queens and fellow contestants was a blast!

Of course no visit to Miss America would be complete without a trip to the trade show. Carl Dunn, CEO of Pageantry Magazine and a fabulous friend to the Beauties of America system was on hand to welcome show attendees and pose for pictures.

Celebrities at the Miss America Trade Show

Sponsors and partners as well as numerous vendors had their wares available and on sale at Miss America's Trade Show. The Pageantry booth manned by none other than Pageantry's CEO, Carl Dunn, was teeming with action; Carolyn Ladd, "Beauties 40's" and Christy Passoth, "Beauties 60's" had a chance to chat with Carl.

Christy also showcased some of Ms. Bellezza's famous jewelry, which has been featured in Pageantry numerous times, while she conversed with this famous jewelry designer, Catherine Potieter.

Miss America 1962, Maria Beale Fletcher, also a former Rockette and a Vanderbilt University graduate, spoke with Christy. This fascinating former Miss America was featured in a one-page editorial in the official Miss America Program Book. During her year's reign, she visited 37 hospitals and military bases in Germany, France, and England.

The famous "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign where Eliza Rister, "America's 30's" and Christy Passoth, "America's 60's" met, was created in 1959 by Betty Wills. Every year over 36 million people arrive and over 19,00 conventions are held in this city that has celebrated its 106th birthday.

America's 30s Elisa Rister and Christy Passoth America's 60s, arrived in Vegas wearing their beautiful national titleholder jackets. Both ladies, as well as 40's queen, Carolyn Ladd, several former titleholders, and friends were in town for the 91st Miss America Pageant and some of the festivities associated with this iconic event, as the "Miss America Trade Show, the "Dinner Gala" and of course the pageant itself.

Fun between events was had including Christy's chance meet up with one of the gorgeous showgirls.

Beauties of America 30s, 40s, and 60s queens Elisa Rister, Carolyn Ladd, and Christy Passoth joined past national titleholder Kathy Lauer (2010 America's 50s 40s) at the 2012 Miss America pageant in Las Vegas, VA. For Carolyn Ladd, it was a return trip to the Miss America Pageant where she competed as Miss Oregon twenty years ago.

The excitement started off with a visit to the Miss America Trade Show where Carolyn joined Beauties of America 60s Christy Passoth for a chance to meet with a very great friend to the Beauties of America system, Carl Dunn in the Pageantry booth.

That evening, the ladies attended the Miss America Gala where Carolyn had a chance to sit with Miss Oregon 2012, Caroline McGowan.

Saturday before the pageant, some of the contestants from Carolyn's year at Miss America had a reunion. Attendees at the reunion included Miss America 1992, Carolyn Sapp, who represented Hawaii.

At the pageant Saturday night, Miss Wisconsin, Laura Kaeppeler, was crowned Miss America. She is a speech pathology major whose platform is mentorship for children who have an incarcerated parent.

"Fill the Cage for the Kids"

Elisa Rister, America 30's assisted the volunteer group Las Comardes "Latina's in Action" and George Castro owner of Boxing Inc. at the annual toy drive supported by the MMA community.

Toy drive took place at local gym Boxing Inc., The goal was to fill the MMA cage with toy donations and gifts for military children who proudly offer their families into harm’s way. We want to let these children know that they are brave young people and even though their parents may be across the globe fighting for our country. We did not forget their unique sacrifices during these difficult times and we appreciate their parent's efforts.

Elisa, America 30's along with her son Alex were there to assist with toy collections and decorations. Elisa was proud to bring her son along to teach him the importance of volunteering and the reason for the toy drive that was benefitting the children of our nation's military.

17th Annual Downtown Tucson Holiday Parade of Lights

Over the holidays, our own Elisa Rister America 30's was able to participate in the Tucson annual parade of lights.

This years parade had over 70 entries and every inch of the parade route was crowded with spectators. It was reported that over 15,000 attuned the annual Christmas Parade and our America 30's was able to be apart of the beautiful experience or all the exciting lights and sights of Christmas.

America's 60s Christy Passoth presents moms and infants program Books For Babes

For over eleven years, Christy Passoth, now America's 60's, and the originator of "Books for Babes" has faithfully presented an early literacy program, on a monthly basis through the California Para-natal Services Program at Pomona Valley Hospital in California. It was initially designed for first time moms who are economically challenged and perhaps otherwise may have not focused on this important aspect of early child development. It is her hope that they will read to and interact verbally often with their newborns, thereby establishing a literacy base.

There is a tremendous illiteracy level in America (over one-third of our country) and early intervention and language skills can make a difference in an infant's eventual academic life.

Moms, Dads too, receive free board books, literature, a knowledgeable presentation, and a demonstration on how to read to an infant. Christy interacts with the moms and dads-to-be and answers all their questions about reading to an infant and even explains how to teach a very young toddler to learn to read before kindergarten.

Program coordinator Maria Frasier has supported this innovative program from its onset and looks forward to the presentations for new Moms and Dads.

Deanna Bebeau, Beauties of America 50s, is a long time and avid Oregon Duck fan!! Deanna joined over 59,000 football fans at the 115th Civil War game between long time, inter-state rival, University of Oregon and Oregon State University.

Deanna is a "born-again" Duck and her is proud of her "adopted home state" of Oregon. She was proud to not only cheer on the Ducks to a 49-21 victory which sealed the PAC-12 North title but to also represent the Beauties of America pageant. Deanna received many admirers when she was noticed as not only the Beauties of America pageant, but also proud representative of women in their 50s and that confidence and wisdom that comes with age is TRUE BEAUTY! Oh...and GO DUCKS!!!!

America's 50s Deanna Beabeau joins southern Oregon ladies in crowning of local queen

It was a gorgeous fall afternoon, not only a sunny and warm day in Medford, Oregon but a day where beautiful ladies from across the Rogue Valley came to vye for the title of Miss Southern Oregon USA and Miss Southern Oregon Teen USA, the only preliminary to the state title of Miss Oregon USA and Miss Oregon Teen USA.

Beauties of America 50s, Deanna Bebeau showed her support for her hometown beauties and her long-time friend, Stephanie Farrell, who is not only the director of the Southern Oregon pageant, but the mother of Tami Farrell, Miss Teen USA 2003. Tami graced the stage as the MC along with the assistance of special guest, Miss Oregon Teen USA 2011, Kayla Rousch. Also joining Deanna was Mrs. Southern Oregon International 2012, Misty McCord, whose daughter had the privilege of serving as a Little Sister Princess to Miss contestant, Melissa Thompson.

The lucky, and well-deserving ladies who will represent Southern Oregon are Kayla Bratton, Miss Southern Oregon USA 2012 and Kiana Binion, Miss Southern Oregon Teen USA. Rhiannon Manley was bestowed with the title of the Shelby Cato Memorial Award (Spirit of Pageantry), an award in the memory of Shelby Cato who was part of the Medford pageant family for many years and lost her life earlier this year -- it was an emotional day for all those who knew and loved Shelby.

SPECIAL UPDATE!!! Kiana Binion was just crowned Miss Oregon Teen USA 2012 this weekend and will represent Oregon at the Miss Teen USA pageant next summer. Oregon is the only state to have three young ladies to have been crowned Miss Teen USA and hopefully a 4th is on her way!

America's 30s Elisa Rister Joins Stars and Stripes Classic for the Joe Foss Insitute

Elisa Rister, America's 30 was on hand to help her fellow pageant sisters ( Megan Ritter, 2011 Arizona Teen All American and the 2012 Mrs. Arizona America delegates) at The 2011 Stars and Stripes Classic benefiting the Joe Foss Institute. Elisa attended the annual event to help raise funds for the the Institute.

The goal of this organization is to step into schools to promote proficiency in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The Joe Foss Institute invests in our future leaders through America's veterans, Inspiring Patriotism Program. They interact with students and share their stories and teach them about our Constitution, the Bill of Rights and students' responsibility to be a good citizen and inspire them to continue on to college.

Elisa, America's 30 was on hand to help raise funds for this event that inspires young people to focus on education and the importance of patriotism. The evening event was expected to raise close to $1 million.

America's 60's, Christy Passoth, Runs School-wide Fundraiser for Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation

Raising awareness of this life-threatening disease, as well as fundraising were two goals for Christy Passoth, as she ran a school-wide fundraiser to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation at Chaparral Middle School.

The Susan G. Komen Foundation is the world's largest and best-funded breast cancer organization, founded in 1982 by Nancy Brinker, sister of Susan G. Komen, as a death-bed promise to her to put an end to breast cancer. This organization hails over 100,000 volunteers in over 50 countries and in addition to funding research efforts towards breast cancer eradication, helps economically-challenged individuals with breast cancer at the local level through county-wide affiliates.

Christy with help of faculty and staff, sold breast cancer duckies, wrist bands, and pins to the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders during their lunch periods; also there was a competition among homerooms to bring in the most donations with the grade-level winning classes sending a representative to the "Pink-Cake-Eating Contest," with five special cakes made by Christy. The winner received an ice cream party for their homeroom class.

Out of the entire school, Christy's class won as her student ate the most pink cake in the shortest amount of time. It was a great experience for the kids and one that helped them realize they too can make a difference in the lives of others through their fund-raising and supporting efforts.

The final proceeds, $851.25, was given to Bonnie Lopez at the school district and will be added to the amounts earned at other schools throughout the Walnut and Diamond Bar schools and one large check will be forwarded to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, all in an effort to end breast cancer.

ELisa Rister, America's 30s headlines firsts annual Bikers For A Cure event

Elisa got a list minute to call to come been a volunteer and special guest with the Southern Arizona Susan G. Komen organization at the kick off of the 1st Annual Bikers for the Cure sponsored by Tucson Harley Davidson.

The morning started off with our own Elisa, America 30's helping out with the registration of all the participants. The first annual ride was a success, having over 100+ Harley Davidson riders come out to ride and support Breast Cancer Awareness.

The ride ended with a lunch party for all the riders. Komen was the happy to be the recipient of the fundraising efforts by Tucson Harley Davidson. It was an amazing day and Elisa, America 30's is always ready to roll up her sleeves and get ready to work no matter the time frame.

Elisa was honored to join a new volunteer group in Tucson. Las Comadres "Latinas in Action" this non profit organization helps many different charities within the Tucson Community. Our own America 30's is happy to be apart of a group that helps within the community and inspire young women to volunteer, please look for more upcoming events with Elisa and more local Tucson Charities.

America's 40s Carolyn Ladd Celebrates America's Veterans!

Beauties of America 40s Carolyn Ladd served as a celebrity judge for the Auburn, Washington Veterans' Day Parade. The parade, celebrating its 46th year, is one of the largest of its type west of the Mississippi. The National Veterans Day Committee and the US Department of Defense selected the City of Auburn as one of the few Regional Sites for Veterans Day Observance in 2011.

The parade was preceded by a military C-17 fly-over from the US Air Force at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. The parade had 186 entries showcasing American strength of will, endurance and purpose. (Photo #2)

The parade featured over 30 marching bands, as well as local Junior ROTC units, honor guards, military units and antique military vehicles. United States Senator Maria Cantwell, an advocate for veterans, marched in the parade as did Auburn Mayor Peter Lewis, a veteran himself. (Photo #1)

The overall award winner of the parade was the Brothers in Arms Motorcycle Club. (Photo #3) These veterans dismounted their Harley Davidson motorcycles to salute in unison the veterans sitting in the VIP reviewing stand. It was a moving tribute by veterans to veterans.

Carolyn also met some members of the Washington National Guard. She is pictured with Guardsman Barcomb who showed her a tank used by his unit. (Photo #4)

America's 30s Elisa Rister "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer"

Beautiful Sunday Morning started off with the 8th annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk at the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson. Our own Elisa Rister, America 30's and Kathy Lauer 2010 America 50's were on hand to participate in the 3.5 mile walk and main event. Elisa is proud to support the American Cancer Society by raising money and awareness for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is more than just the name of a walk; it describes the progress we're making together to end breast cancer. However, nothing can describe the hope inspired by walking with hundreds or thousands of others who share a passion for ending this disease. Because nearly everyone has been touched by breast cancer in some way, Elisa was able to create a team and raise money for her local American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event.

Elisa Rister America's 30s Learns It's Great To Be Queen!

In celebration of her recent win, in early in October Elisa Rister, America's 30 was able to have an amazing photo shoot at a beautiful Scottsdale, AZ mansion. Elisa had the opportunity to shoot with her long time friend and photographer Byron Medina and his wife/make-up artist Sylvia, taking advantage of the gorgeous location.

This amazing team did fashion images for her 2011 Beauties of America 30's title. Byron also helped Elisa with her headshots for the Beauties of America national pageant program book, his pictures awarded her her first photogenic award.

America's 30s Elisa Rister Gets a Special Ride For the Helldorado Days Festival

Elisa Rister, America 30's traveled down to historic Tombstone, AZ, "the town too tough to die." Our own America 30's was in Tombstone to participate in the 82nd annual Helldorado Days Festival.

Helldorado is Tombstone's oldest festival celebrating its rip-roaring days of the 1880's. The festival started in 1929 and is sponsored by Helldorado, Inc. whose membership is composed of residents in Cochise County.

Helldorado is held every third weekend in October and consists of gunfight re-enactment shows, street entertainment, fashion shows and a family oriented carnival and annual parade. Elisa, America's 30 had the honor of participating in the annual parade, riding on her exciting half car and half motorcycle show stopper ride on loan by her good friend.

During the parade, Elisa was able to meet the 2011 Miss Helldorado Days Queen and her 1st runner-up, local business parade entries and entertainers.

Elisa and her family celebrate every year at Tombstone Helldorado Days festival, this trip was made more special by participating in the annual parade as 2011 Beauties of America 30's. The Rister family highly recommends this festival is you ever visit southern Arizona.

America's 40s Carolyn Ladd Meets Up With NW Queens at Mrs. Oregon America Pageat

Beauties of America's 40s Carolyn Ladd attended the Mrs. Oregon America Pageant in Portland, Oregon and had a chance to catch up with many of her northwest friends. The pageant was held at the grand ballroom of the Marriott hotel. Eight ladies competed for the title of Mrs. Oregon America and the opportunity to compete at the Mrs. America Pageant. The contestants were judged in interview, swimsuit and evening gown. The winner was Erin Piibor, Mrs. Eugene.

Many pageant title holders from Oregon and Washington were in attendance, including the gorgeous lady who crowned Carolyn, 2010 America's 40s Tamara Wissbaum in picture #1.

17th Annual Noche De Exitos Gala Includes America's 30s Elisa Rister

On Saturday October 15 the 17th Annual Noche De Exitos Gala took place. This event is put together by the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and our own Elisa Rister, America 30's was on hand to participate in the nights fun festivities.

Elisa had a great experience interacting with the honorable Mayor of Tucson Bob Walkup (pictured with Elisa), Tucson Business leaders and many more significant contributors to the Tucson community.
Elisa was honored to have been able to meet and talk with Tannya Gaxiola, 2011 Business Woman of the year (pictured in long gown). Tannya was recognized by the THCC for her creating her own business Quikhelp, a legal documentation preparation firm.

The evening was filled with a fun reception, dinner, music, dancing and a silent auction with proceeds benefiting the THCC foundation which provides scholarship money to students.

Overall is was an amazing event and Elisa was proud to be apart of this event honoring Hispanic leaders within her community. Thank you to my good friend Joe Ramirez and Area520.com for having me attend as your special guest.

America's 40s Carolyn Ladd Joins Washington Royalty at Miss Washington USA

Beauties of America 40's Carolyn Ladd was on hand this past weekend for the crowning of the new Miss Washington USA. The pageant was held on October 9, 2011, at the Highline Performing Arts Center in Burien, Washington in front of a sold out, enthusiastic crowd.

Christina Clark beat out 31 other contestants for the title. Christina is a 22 year old student at Bellevue College. She is a former cheerleader for the Seattle Seahawks. During the onstage interview portion of the competition she sang a few bars from an Elvis song.

Here Carolyn is pictured with the outgoing Miss Washington USA Angelina Kayyalaynen and the Washington International Junior Miss royalty. She is also pictured with (from left to right): Trisha Downey, Ms. Classic American Renaisance Classic; Laura Hunter, Mrs. Washington International; and Chantel Clifford, Miss Aquafest.

America's 60s, Christy Passoth, A Guest At Rose Breast Cancer Society Event In Beverly Hills

The Rose Breast Cancer Society is a 501(C)3 non-profit organization, founded by Carmelita Pittman as a living memorial in memory of her dear mother who passed from breast cancer in 1999. The purpose of the organization is to provide education for the prevention and intervention of breast cancer, and to disseminate monies to existing cancer programs.

As a cancer survivor Christy spoke briefly at the Cancer Prevention Symposium and fundraiser which was held on October 6, 2011 at the Beverly Hills Country Club.

Many dignitaries and celebrities were in attendance including the Honorable Diane Watson (33rd US Congressional District-CA), international artist from Uganda Emily Lu, and Academy Award winning actress Margaret O'Brien.

The evening's honoree was Dame Iris Schirmer. Dame Schirmer is a descendent of Mary Queen of Scots and has twice been knighted by the Monarch of Great Britain.

Dame Schirmer is also a decendent of the esteemed Pinzón Family of Spain. The Pinzón family provided King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella the fleet of three ships which were captained by Christopher Columbus on his historical voyage. The ship the Pinta was captained by Martin Alonso Pinzón. The Nina was captained by Vincente Anes Pinzón, brother of Martin. Francisco Martín Pinzón was maestre (first mate) of the Pinta.

2011 America's 30s Elisa Rister and 2010 America's 50s Kathy Lauer Join Beads of Courage Benefiting Critically Ill Children

Beauties of America national queens past and present were on hand for a Saturday evening of Giving, Fashion and Art at the 4th Annual "Beads in Style" Charity event, benefitting Beads of Courage. The night was about raising funds for the Beads of Courage, Inc.

Beads of Courage, Inc. transform the science of caring for children coping with cancer and other serious illness through their innovative arts-in-medicine programs. The program is a standard of care in over 100 children's hospitals in six countries.

This was a fabulous evening featuring fashion, wearable bead art, a live auction and wine tasting. Our own Elisa Rister, America 30's and Kathy Lauer, 2010 America 50's, were honored to take part in modeling great outfits from their favorite store White House Black Market and wearable art designed by artists from the Sonoran Glass Art Academy.

Elisa's earrings and necklace sold at the live auction for $160 and Kathy's necklace sold for $130. The other models present also had featured art that were auctioned off at prices from $50- $300. Overall it was a great night for fashion and art to raise money for children battling serious illnesses.

America's 40s Carolyn Ladd Puts A New Meaning Into Four!

Carolyn Ladd, Beauties of America 40s, attended the 1st Annual Miss Washington Alumni Mini Golf Extravaganza at the Newcastle Golf Club near Seattle. The Miss Washington Alumni Association (MWAA) was created to support the Miss Washington Scholarship Program with scholarships and gifts. The MWAA includes any former Miss Washington and any other former Miss America state title holder who is currently living in Washington state. As a former Miss Oregon, Carolyn is a dues paying member of the MWAA.

Eight former Miss Washingtons attended as did the current Miss Washington, Brittney Henry, who will compete at Miss America in January. Teams played 18 holes of mini golf on a blustery October day. Golfers paid to golf with a beauty queen. Later in the evening there was a benefit concert called Rocktober that also raised money for the MWAA. A great time was had by all and money was raised for a great organization.

America's 30s Elisa Rister, The Model of Perfection!

On Saturday morning Elisa Rister, America's 30 traveled down to Sierra Vista, AZ, to participate in the 2nd Annual "Paws for Applause" Fall Fashion Show and Fundraiser for the Sierra Vista Symphony.

This event was attend by 100 guests, The event kicked off with a lunch and silent auction and then followed by over 30 models walking the runway wearing fashions from local Southern Arizona boutiques and Dillard's. Some models were featured with 4 legged friends for fun. Our own Elisa, America's 30 was one of the featured models, wearing fashions provided by local Tucson boutique Maya Palace. Elisa has been model for this boutique for 3 years now and is always featured in the local T.V. and print ads. Elisa also shared the runway with local pageant titleholders Kara Marquez, Mrs. Southern Arizona and Carmen De Leon, Miss Sierra Vista.

Thank you to Tricia Williams and the Sierra Vista Symphony for having our America's 30 participate in the event, it was great day full of fun and fashion to support the local musical arts.

America's 60s Headlines Cruisin' For A Cure

Cruisin' for the Cure is the world's largest one day charity car show with over 3,400 vehicles and 200 vendors and exhibitors, all of which are gathered together to raise money for prostate cancer research, and through the City of Hope, to offer on-site blood tests to detect possible prostate cancer in men.

This idea originated in 1999 through the host club Hot Rods Unlimited because there was little publicity about the disease and most men affected were in the general age range of the guys who owned the hot rods. The show has saved over 1000 men as a direct result of the on-site PSA blood testing and has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for prostate cancer research.

She made sure the paperwork was correctly filled out as some of the men had forgotten their glasses or couldn't see the small boxes. She said it felt gratifying to have help in this way and enjoyed talking to the men and hearing about their lives and current situations.

One out of six men in the United States, will contract prostate cancer in his lifetime, and 200,000 men this year alone will be diagnosed; 31,000 will die. If we can do anything to lower
those numbers, it is imperative that we do iso.

This was the 12th annual event, held at the Orange County Fair and Events Center in Costa Mesa, California and the largest and most successful to date.

America's 30s Elisa Rister Proves Why Volunteering Is Important

Early Tucson Saturday morning, Elisa attended the 2nd Annual "Tri" for Acts of Kindness Triathlon and Dualthlon 2011 Fundraiser, benefitting the Shyann Kindness Project. This organization was founded by Sandy and Glenn Rosati, who started it in memory of their daughter Shyann.

The mission of the Shyann Kindness Project is to pass on kindness by educating, supporting and encouraging children in stressful economic, social and medical situations, along with with providing guidance and support to caregivers of children with special needs. The Shyann Kindness Project, a 100% volunteer organization, honored Elisa, America's 30 with becoming a special full time volunteer with the project.

Elisa helped out with the kick off of the triathlon, which had over 180 participants. She assisted with the start of the triathlon at the pool, keeping count of the swimmers. After that Elisa helped out at the finish line cheering on the racers as they crossed the finish line, and handed out medals and gifts bags as thank you for participating in the 2nd Annual Triathlon.

Beauties of America Queens Present and Past Race For The Cure

Three national Beauties of America queens walked in the 20th Annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Portland, Oregon on Sunday morning September 18, 2011. Tamara Wissbaum, Beauties of America 40s 2010, Carolyn Ladd, Beauties of America 40s 2011, and Deanna Bebeau, Beauties of America 50s 2011, all have family members who have had breast cancer so the event was very special for each of them.

Deanna ordered matching hats for the ladies and Carolyn made a sign that included a hot pink feather boa and large pink rhinestones to match the Beauties of America crown. (The sign helped the nieces of Debra Gilmour, 2009 America's 50s, find the Beauties of America ladies pictured together, here.)

Also participating in the event was Miss Oregon 2011 Caroline McGowan. (Carolyn was Miss Oregon 1991 and knows Caroline because they were both Miss Linn-Benton on their way to the Miss Oregon crown.)

Tens of thousands of runners and walker, most of them dressed in pink, participated in the three mile event. The event raises money to find a cure for breast cancer and also raises awareness for women of the benefits of early detection including mammograms and self-exams.

America's 40s, Carolyn Ladd Commemorates Those Fallen On the 10th Anniversary of September 11 Tragedy

Beauties of America 40s, Carolyn Ladd, commemorated the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2001 by running in the Stephen Sillers Tunnel to Towers run. Sillers was a firefighter with the Fire Department of New York. On the morning of September 11, 2001 Sillers had just gotten off the night shift, but when he heard about the fires at the World Trade Center, he drove toward the towers to try to help. When he got to the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel it was closed. So he put on his 60 pounds of firefighter gear and ran 3 miles from the tunnel into the burning World Trade Center. Sillers died in the WTC, leaving behind 5 small children. His heroism is remembered on September 11 with Tunnel to Towers runs throughout the country where runners run 3 miles in honor of the 3 miles Siller ran in full gear to get to the WTC.

This was the first year for a Tunnel to Towers run in Ferndale, Washington (near the Canadian border). The ceremonies started with the singing of the national anthem and a military helicopter fly over. Firefighter Peter Rule of Whatcom Fire District No. 7 (pictured with Carolyn and pictured finishing) ran the entire 3 miles in his firefighter gear to honor Sillers.

Many other firefighters participated in the run, although only Rule ran in full gear. It was a very special event to honor a very special man.

America's 40s Carolyn Ladd Celebrates at the Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival

Beauties of America 40s, Carolyn Ladd, participated in the 46th annual Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival Parade on September 10, 2011. Here she is with Princess Evelyn who rode with her -- and had the perfect beauty queen wave.

The Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival celebrates the lighthouse built on Elliot Point in 1905. The lighthouse, which is still in use today, guides ships through Puget Sound on their way to Everett. Mayor Joe Minor rode on a float replica of the lighthouse.

This is Heather, the Worthy Advisor of an assembly of Rainbow Girls, a Masonic organization that gives leadership and service opportunities to girls. Worthy Advisor is an elected office and is the highest position in the Rainbow Girls.

Also in the parade were The Treasure Island Pirates, who appear in many parades in Washington state. When Carolyn asked this pirate what his name was, he answered, "Aaaarrgh!"

Deanna enjoyed the local sights and cuisine including the beautiful Riverwalk and Buckhorn Museum which shares the history of the famous

Texas Rangers, the second-oldest-state-level law enforcement agency who have taken part in many of the most important events in Texas history.

Deanna Bebeau, Beauties of America 50's, was a special guest for an evening of beauty and inspiration at a pageant workshop for the contestants of the upcoming Miss Southern Oregon USA/Miss Southern Oregon Teen USA, a preliminary pageant for the Miss Oregon USA and Miss Oregon Teen USA pageant to be held this fall. The workshop was provided by pageant director, Stephanie Farrell. Stephanie's daughter is Tami Farrell, a former Miss Oregon Teen USA who went on to capture the title of Miss Teen USA 2003.

Deanna shared with the young ladies the rewarding experience participating in pageantry can bring along with her tips on the importance of maintaining a positive attitude, wardrobe, stage presence, and interview skills. The current Miss Oregon Teen USA, Kayla Roush, was also on hand to share the highlites of her year as Miss Oregon Teen USA.

The girls were also treated to a private trunk show and mini coaching session courtesy of Libby Crawford, owner of the Gown Closet and long-time pageant coach. It was a fun and informative night for all who attended!

All Roads Lead to Rt. 66 and America's 60s Christy Passoth

Route 66, the Mother Road of all highways was paved in 1926 and still traverses two-thirds of the United States, starting in Chicago and extending to California. The Route 66 National Pageant is held in Barstow, annually, this year on August 27th, as a fundraiser to support the Route 66 museum.

Titleholders are participate in Barstow and other cities' Route 66 activities and car shows, with the winners participating in three mandatory appearances during the year including: Barstow Main Street USA Run Car Show on Route 66, the famous San Bernardino Route 66 Rendezvous, and the Annual Route 66 Museum Anniversary & Car Show.

Titles are promoted in the cities of the ladies through community service or a parade; twelve tittles were awarded: Baby, Petite, Tiny, Little Pixie, Junior, Pre-teen, Jr. Teen, Teen, Miss, Mrs. Ms. and Classic.

As Beauties of America, 60's, I served as emcee for two segments of the pageant and as a former titleholder had the honor of crowning the new Ms. Classic Route 66.

America's 30s Elisa Rister Takes a Swing For Cancer

It was a busy day for me and my second event for 8-24-11 was in the evening at the Tucson Padres baseball game.

The theme of the night game was Bat for a Cure, helping to raise awareness about Breast Cancer and fundraiser and to promote the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk which is coming up on October 30. I was there volunteering with the American Cancer Society and Making Strides team.

I helped talk about the walk and pass info about how to get involved. It was fun to watch the game and raise awareness.

We got off to a late start (game delay) due to the windy monsoon, but it soon passed and we got to work and played ball.

I was also able to bring my family along, and they watched the baseball game while I worked for Bat For The Cure.

It was an early morning the kick off (6am!) of the Mountain of Miracles Radio-thon for the Children's Miracle Network at Tucson Medical Center.

I was working in the phone bank taking phone call donations for Children's Miracle Network.

I got to hang out with local radio host Jennie from 9.29 the Mountain, Ericka Grasse Community Coordinator for Tucson Medical Center, my good friend Holly and other volunteers from Tucson Medical Center and local business.

It was fun to be at the kick off for the 3 day fundraiser.

America's 40s Carolyn Ladd Meets Up WIth Beauties of America Alum At Miss Yakima Pageant!

Carolyn Ladd, Beauties of America 40s, ventured east of the Cascade mountains to attend the Miss Yakima County 2011 Pageant. The winner, Reina Almon, will compete in the Miss Washington Pageant, a preliminary to Miss America, next year.

The director of the

Miss Yakima Pageant is our own Carol Milliron, 2008 Beauties of America 50s.

One unique feature of the pageant was that each contestant had a male relative who ran through the audience collecting money in a bucket during a 90 second frenzy called "Dashing for Dollars."

The men wore t-shirts with the name of their contestant, some bedazzled, and one father even wore a small crown attached to his (bald) head with an elastic band around his chin! "Dashington for Dollars" raised over $1000 for the scholarship fund. The constant whose bucket had the most money got to keep half of it -- $150! Congratulations to Carol Milliron on a very successful pageant!

America's 40s Carolyn Ladd Celebrates Auburn Days!

Carolyn Ladd, Beauties of America 40s, made her first appearance on August 13, 2011 at the Auburn, Washington Good Ol' Days Parade. She met Miss Auburn Daniela Ferrell (who was 4th runner up to Miss Washington) and Miss Auburn's Outstanding Teen Naomi Moore. Also pictured are some young ladies from the Miss Auburn Princess Program.

The highlight of the parade for Carolyn was meeting two people who are celebrating achievement at any age! Vickie Vallier, built B-17 bombers at Boeing during World War II. Women known as "Rosie the Riveters" built military aircraft while men were off at war. Vickie, age 87, was just crowned the Pioneer Queen.

Orientation and meet and greet...

National director Che' White kicked off the 2011 Beauties of America pageant this morning with introductions of the 2010 national queens, new national staff, the unvieling of the new state delegate crowns, and filling the anxious delegates in on a fun-filled weekend in store for them as they prepare to compete for the Beauties of America 2011 national titles.

First on the agenda was the crowning of the delegates with the custom

designed state crowns featuring AB and purple stones on a banded crown. After the national queens crowned their division delegates, Ms. White revealed the new national crowns and sashes sure to please the five new ladies who will wear them come Saturday night's results!

Next the five 2010cnational queens spoke of their person experiences giving the delgates much to think about and learn as they shared some very fun and at times moving and personal experiences.

After lunch, the ladies enjoyed a presentation from 2009 America's 50s and Beauties of America public relations director Debra Gilmour on how to successfully promote your title and platform. The ladies also got some sound advice on different competition styles and honoring each other as contestants in each woman's persona journey.

The ladies were excused for the afternoon for some much needed rest before the gala red carpet event this evening. Enjoy below some of the many photos taken as the ladies:

Delegates from across the country started arriving in San Antonio today in anticipation of the national Beauties of America pageant which begins Thursday, August 4. By late afternoon, national queens Kathy Lauer, Tamara Wissbaum, and Brooke Hidde were at the Hilton Airport San Antonio Hotel along with more than a few anxious and excited delegates.

A few surprises are in store as the ladies enjoy the new pageant location, celebrity sitings, and the national office unveils some exciting new changes sure to put a smile on delegates' faces!

National Beauties of America Pageant Countdown!

As recently feature in the June 2011 issue of MORE Magazine, the Beauties of America pageant, now in its 27th year of "Celebrating beauty and achievement at every age", will crown five lucky women ranging in ages from their 20s to their 60s in the national event. 2011 marks the first year the event is held in San Antonio, Texas.

The pageant is the only one of its kind for the concept of creating a competition in which women compete in age divisions. The delegates may be single, married, divorced or widowed according to the competition rules. Women from across the USA will compete in interview (40%), fitness wear (25%), evening gown (25%), and photogenic 10%) for the chance to represent women across America in their age divisions.

"Beauties of America is about celebrating a woman at the stage of life in which she in, not about her marital status" said Che' White, the recently appointed national director and a familiar face in the San Antonio business community.

The media is welcomed and encouraged to attend the public appearances scheduled for the delegates and reigning queens, as well as the big event on Saturday evening, August 6, at 6:00 p.m., at the Hilton Airport San Antonio Hotel.

America's 50s Kathy Lauer Hits A Home Run At All-Star FanFest

I had a fun three days volunteering at Major League Baseball's All-Star FanFest in Phoenix. Fortunately I was able to get assignments that required absolutely no baseball skills -- hey, somebody has to line up the kids and pick up the balls!

Along with interactive games and attractions like "the World's Laregest Baseball" autographed by MLB All-Stars, fans were invited to sign a banner pledging to never drink and drive, and to always buckle up. I was excited to pose next to the official World Series trophy, which I hope to see back in the hands of my favorite team, the Boston Red Sox!

America's 20s Jana Murell Helps Raise Funds For The Overtown Rhythm and Arts Festival

I attended a fundraiser to help raise money for the historic Overtown Rhythm and Arts festival. This festival is part of a city wide effort to revitalize the area which has been effected by crime and poverty. a little bit about Overtown: the area was once the preeminent and is the historic center for commerce in the black American community in Miami and South Florida.

The second-oldest continuously inhabited neighborhood of the Miami area after Coconut Grove, the area thrived as a center for commerce, primarily along Northwest Second Avenue, home to the Lyric Theatre (completed in 1913) and other businesses, serving as the main street of the black community during an era which, up until the Civil Rights Act of 1964, barred African American residents from entering middle and upper income white areas like Miami Beach and Coral Gables without "passes." During the Florida land boom of the 1920s, Overtown was home to the one of the first black millionaires in the American South, D. A. Dorsey.

America's 20s Jana Murrell At Miss Riviera Beach USA

I attended the Miss Riviera Beach USA and Teen USA pageant. I was there for one special lady- her name is Amisha Shockency- Russell.

This was Amisha's first EVER pageant, and she was extremely nervous. She asked for some coaching advice so I decided to help her out. Things were going great and she was catching on, and doing fabulous.

Then, during one of our practice sessions, I asked her to put on her swim suit and show me how she would walk when she competes in swimsuit on stage. The nerves came out and she was extremely uncomfortable being up on stage in her suit, even just in front of me and a few family members.

In the end she practiced and pulled it all together for the big night and in an exciting finish-Amisha won! She will now compete in the upcoming Miss Florida USA pageant.

America's 30s Siouxzan Moore Throws Out The First Pitch

I had a great weekend of fun and was able to include my daughter (Sophia Moore, Miss Exquisite Junior International 2011 - a title she recently won) with me on Saturday when I was invited to throw out the first pitch at the Wilmington Blue Rocks Minor League Baseball game.

It was a wonderful experience to be able to not only do an appearance representing this great pageant system but to share this opportunity with my daughter. She and I were so excited and the weather couldn't have been more perfect! On top of this, a friend of ours made some wonderful matching "pageant title" tank tops for us to wear to our appearance.

We would like to thank Dave Arthur and the Wilmington Blue Rocks for always being so wonderful to work with. The great thing about Delaware (although we are a small state) is that everyone here is really close knit and loves to showcase local celebrities (pageantry and more) in a very positive light.

America's 50s Kathy Lauer At The American Renaissance Pageant

I had a fantastic time seeing long-time friends and meeting new pageant sisters at the American Renaissance Pageant. I was happy to be able to attend the first night of the pageant, held at the Excalibur Hotel in Las Vegas.

I was excited to find out that Sheila Klein was serving as a judge. Sheila has won many titles herself, and is a wonderful rule model for women involved in pageants. We met at a pageant several years ago, and have remained friends ever since.

Beauties of America was well-represented with Cyndi Frazier, Florida 50s; Charissa Payer, America's 40s 2006; and Traci Quinones, America's 30s 2007. Congratulations to Traci, who went on to win the Ms. American Renaissance title!

At intermission I had a chance to meet up with another visiting queen -- Laura Hunter, Mrs. Washington International. Best wishes to Laura at the Mrs. International Pageant in July!

At the end of the first night of competition, two crowns were awarded. Ani Vidal, Ms. Florida Woman, won the title of Ms. Civic, and Haley Downey, Miss Teen Washington, won the title of Ms. Talent.

But, as they say there could only be 4 winners and they were: Bethany Johnson, America's Ms. 2011, Darlene Taylor, America's Mrs. 2011, Trisha Prill, America's Miss Teen 2011 and Shaina Millan, America's Miss 2011.

America's 40s Tamara Wissbaum Returns To The Miss USA Pageant!

Being Beauties of America 2010, America's 40's is so much fun. I love going to events representing the title I am so proud of.

I had the extreme pleasure to attend the 2011 Miss USA Pageant. It was the 60th Anniversary of the Miss USA Pageant, and there were several former state, national, and international title holders in attendance.

Being a former Miss Oregon USA made it was even more special. Since the pageant was held in Las Vegas I, of course, had to stop at the Fabulous Las Vegas sign, on our way to the Planet Hollywood Hotel. There were several banners and posters up all around the hotel and casino, advertising the pageant. I couldn't resist photo ops in front, or beside them.

As we all eagerly waited to enter the showroom, there was plenty of time for more photo ops. I met the current reigning Miss & Mrs. Galaxy, and Ms. Beliza Latina.

But one special young woman I was pictured with was Oregon's own Miss Oregon Teen USA 2011,

Kayla Roush. Kayla heads to the Bahamas in 3 weeks to compete for Miss Teen USA. We were so proud of our Miss Oregon USA, Anna Prosser, she is beautiful inside and out. The lucky woman to capture the crown, was from the west coast. Miss California USA is the newly crowned Miss USA for 2011.

I have had such a wonderful time in Las Vegas, fun in the sun, and enjoyed two of my favorite pastimes.....poker and P A G E A N T S!!!!!!!

On Wednesday, June 8th, I was asked to appear at the 4th Annual PCAD 5K Walk/Run, at Rockford Park, (Wilmington, Delaware), as one of my first official duties as the Celebrity Spokesperson for Prevent Child Abuse Delaware.

Not only did I get to share a brief snibit about my story of surviving child abuse but my family and I had a great time volunteering our time to help the runners and walkers get ready, meet with sponsors and getting the food together to help re-charge everyone after their great efforts. I also had the opportunity to give out awards and medals to the winners and participants after the race.

Thank you to Michelle Murphy, Communication Director of PCAD for believing in me and providing me with this wonderful opportunity. I look forward to many more events and opportunities in the future.

The beautiful city of Hamilton, Montana hosted the first-ever America's Super Pageant. Michelle Field, Colorado 40s, and I were honored to serve on the panel of judges for this event.

Janet Bierer, the national director, and I have been friends since we competed together at a pageant in 1997. Janet created the pageant to honor the memory of her daughter, Allanya, who lost her life in an auto accident.

Pictured are the national titleholders who will promote the platform of seatbelt use and awareness, reminding everyone to "buckle up" to save lives.

America's Teen Brooke Hidde Helps Get Itasca Fit!

America's Teen Brooke Hidde volunteered at Get fit Itasca on May 18th at the Grand Rapids Sports Complex in Grand Rapids Minnesota. The main idea of Get Fit is to get everyone, young and elderly out and moving.

The organization thrives from public participation and many activities are planned to improve active living and nutrition opportunities in Itasca County. Thus Get Fit Itasca.

Many of the activities included a bike rodeo, castle bouncer and inflatable games for the children. Exercises for all were lead by two of the Minnesota Viking Cheerleaders. There was also music and a DJ and dance demonstrations to get fit.

Mayor Don Adams also presented the Fit City Proclamation and then led the mile long hike on one of the many trails provided by the city. It was such a fun day as Brooke helped show America how to get fit!

America's 40s Tamara Wissbaum A True Sparkle Mom!

As spring-time is upon us, the pageant season heats up. I had the pleasure of seeing hundreds of young women, from across the state, reach for their dreams, and wish upon a star.

Seeing all the contestant at Oregon's 2011 National American Miss pageant, having so much fun making new friends, rehearsing and competing, was such a thrill. I was, once again, awed and inspired by how talented and gifted these young women are.

One of the "stars" of the show was the 2010 Miss Oregon Jr. Pre-Teen, Sophia Takla (seen in the white gown with the giant smile!). She is the daughter of one of my best friends, and refers to me as her"sparkle mom." This is an honor bestowed upon me that I adore, and I love my "sparkle daughter" so very much.

She entertained the audience with her clogging tap dance to "Boogie Boogie Bugle Boy from Company B." She lit up the stage during the opening production number, and she excitedly encouraged all of the contestants as they prepared for their formal wear competition.

It was quite a tearful moment when her farewell video played and she gave her final walk. But what really choked everyone up was when her sweet sister queens all went on stage with gifts and hugs for her. Sophia will forever be part of their NAMily.

Sophia ended her reign by having the pleasure of crowning one of her best friends, and fellow Junior Blazer Dancer, Ciara Wilson. They were so cute after the pageant hugging each other, and posing for photos.

It was fun to be able to meet so many of the NAM Queens, to see other Oregon title holders, and to be able to represent the pageant I am so proud of..., the Beauties of America Pageant!!!

Their curiosity was piqued. Editors of one of America's leading beauty and fashion magazines "for women of style and substance" MORE Magazine had recently learned women in the 30s, 40s, and 50s were still competing in and enjoying pageantry.

In August 2010 MORE Magazine sent a writer and photography crew to cover the Beauties of America pageant in Myrtle Beach, SC. With all the rain we have been experiencing it was so much fun to be able to get through a parade without getting rained on. One of the neighborhood suburbs in the Portland area is called St. Johns. The St Johns residents really roll out the red carpet to their parade participants. It was so much fun to be part of such a fun celebration.

I had the pleasure of meeting Sharon, a lovely lady from the Oregon Zoo. She goes around to the many parades and festivals with the Zoo-mobile to encourage families to come to the Oregon Zoo. Since I was a little girl I have always been an animal lover, and loved the zoo.

I was lucky to have my handsome husband as my parade driver. He grew up in the St. Johns community, knew exactly where the staging area was, and loved reminiscing and telling me stories about his childhood. It was a wonderful afternoon, and I am glad we were able to share it together.

America's 40s Tamara Wissbaum Get Behind the Camera!

I had the pleasure of hosting The Beyond Photography photo shoot. Seeing an artist in action was so much fun, and quite a learning experience.

The photographer was Laura Hunter, who is also the current Mrs. WA International. Laura has her masters degree in photography, and is an expert at re-touching and photo shopping.

She has been photographing pageant competitors for many years. She even took time to "teach" me, and had me take a turn behind the camera.

I have never felt very photogenic, but with Laura behind the camera I relaxed, and actually liked a lot of the shots she took. I was even able to get a couple more Beauties of America 2010 America's 40's head shots that I am proud to use to represent the title I am honored to hold.

It was a very fun weekend for all, and everyone loved their final photos!!!!

"Lights, Camera, Fashion" was the theme for the Salvation Army's Encore! Celebrity Fashion Show to benefit local programs for women and children.

Models wore wore gently used clothing and accessories that were available for purchase in the "Chic Boutique" after the show. Jennifer Waddell, evening anchor for KGUN 9 News, let me in on the secret that she was the donor of the cute little black dress that I wore!

I also had the chance to meet University of Arizona Head Coaches Mike Stoops (football) and Sean Miller (basketball). A special thanks to the hair stylists and makeup artists who volunteered to give us such glamorous and fun looks on the runway!

America's 40s Tamara Wissbaum Enjoys Miss Lane County Pageant

I had a great time enjoying the fun and festivities of the Miss Lane County/Miss Linn Benton Pageant, on April 2, 2011. I was an invited guest of the director, Nicole Akins, while my mom was a judge for this exciting event. All of the contestants were amazing young ladies, who were talented and deserving of the crowns.

The newly crowned Miss Lane County 2011 is Amanda MacDougall, and Miss Linn Benton 2011 is Caroline McGowan. Both of these ladies are singers, and will be shining on the Miss Oregon America stage this coming July.

Another one of the judges for the pageant was, Kail Harbick, from McKenzie, OR. She is also known for her appearance on Big Brother 8, the hit CBS Reality TV show.

One of the best parts of pageantry are the friendships made. I had the opportunity to visit with a friend that I hadn't seen in a while, Carolyn Ladd. Carolyn, was a former Miss Linn Benton, and went on win Miss Oregon, then compete for Miss America in 1991.

She told me that she missed competing, which gave me the chance to tell her all about Beauties of America. Now she may be a future Beauties of America contestant.

America's 20s Jana Murrell Headlines Miss Boynton Beach Pageant

First rule of thumb as a Beauties of America national titleholder? Always be prepared for anything! Such was the case as America's 20s Jana Murrell headed out to the Miss Boynton Beach pageant to serve as a celebrity judge. When a last minute call came informing pageant officials the emcee for the evening would not be able to make it, Jana graciously stepped up to serve as the host of the entire event!

For the contestants it was a chance to take their cues from a well loved community mentor, making the evening all the more special for the young women. When it was all over, Farah Jean Baptiste (in the purple sash, seen with her runners up) was the lucky lady to win the title. Congratulations, Farah!

America's 40s Tamara Wissbaum Goes To A Pajama Party!

I had the pleasure of being a celebrity judge for the 2nd Annual Miss Portland-Pajama Project Pageant (Judges pictured left). The Pajama Project Pageant is a fundraiser for the Caring Closet. The Caring Closet is an organization that donates pajamas to needy children around the Portland area.

Their initial goal was to meet or beat the 400 pairs of pajamas they donated last year.

Not only did these beautiful contestants beat last years goal, but they worked so hard, and were able to present over 575 pairs of pajamas to The Caring Closet. The Executive Director was so touched, and extremely grateful for this wonderful donation. I too, was awed and inspired by what these beautiful young ladies accomplished today.

A Very Special Proclamation

Jana Murrell had the privilege of emceeing an appreciation luncheon for Angelica Spicer. She received a proclamation from the mayor of Miami Gardens for her commitment to community service and volunteerism.

The date March 12 was also declared Angelica Spicer day, in her honor! It was awe inspiring to see how dedicated Angelica is to giving back to her community.

The day included lots of fun especially our luncheon entertainment. Hula dancers gathered to teach us a dance then invited all gathered to celebrate Angela's big day in a group dance on the floor. It was a wonderful celebration for very special lady!

Kathy Lauer, America's 50s Gives Her Support For the Arizona Opera League

I had the chance to see one of the beautiful Sante Fe-style homes in Tucson as a room docent for the annual Arizona Opera League's Home Tour.

Proceeds from the event go to projects including sending a huge truck to rural areas in Arizona to give children there the opportunity to learn about opera. Pictured with me are Jan Michel, Volunteer Coordinator, and Hilary Greener, Mrs. Tucson America.

America's 20s Jana Murrell Making A Difference For Young Women

Speaking to young women about the rewards of pageant participation, America's 20s Jana Murrell has become a favorite for young women in Florida as a role model, mentor, and spokesperson. Recently, she again shared her wisdom and experiences along her road to becoming a national titleholder.

Jana shared tips and ideas with first time pageant participants who will be competing in a high school pageant in the near future. The young women got to get up before an audience and speak, model in a runway type fashion segment, and get coaching advice from Jana as parents, coaches, and instructors absorbed her pearls of wisdom.

As you can see, these girls are going to have a great time and are learning the most valuable lesson for their futures. Becoming women of confidence, walking with assurance, and tackling the number on fear cited in polls - speaking in public.

We know the participants are off to a wonderful start!

America's 20s Jana Murrell Serves as Mistress of Ceremonies for Florida Beauties of America Pageant

Jana Murrell has been very busy making appearances and sharing her positive message about pageant participation. But one of her favorite by far was recently when she was able to go back to the Florida Beauties of America pageant to visit with her sister queens, and serve as mistress of ceremonies for the event.

Friday night, was first night of BOA and orientation for delegates. Jana spoke about her year and wha

t the winners can expect at nationals.

Then, it was time to get down to rehearsals. The theme for the pagent was "Those Fabulous 50's". Opening number had the ladies dancing to the song was from Grease, "We Go Together." Jana threw on her Florida 20s sash on for old times sake, then switched to her national title banner to show the delegates what they might recieve if they win nationals.

Geri, Florida's 60's and up and Annette, Florida's 50, (Jana's Florida sister queens) were going over the scipt and show runddown to prepare for their jobs of hosting and emceeing. Jana served as the Mistress of Ceremonies, and Annette and Geri emceed the fitness and evening gown competitions.

Apparently it was quite a workout but all the ladies had a great time! In the end the lucky women headed to the national Beauties of America pageant are Florida's 60s-Carmen Stride, Florida's 50s-Cyndi Fraser, and Florida's 40s-Kim Carpenter. Congratulations to everyone!

America's 50s Kathy Lauer and Stars Shining Brightly For Several Well Deserving Charities!

This weekend I had the opportunity to volunteer at Celebrity Fight Night in Phoenix. This event raises millions of dollars to benefit the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center and other charities.

I had the chance to meet some of sports top known athletes including John Salley who at 6'11" (and towered over me!) won 4 NBA championships with the Detroit Pistons, LA Lakers, and Chicago Bulls.

Also an actor, reality show star, and TV host.

This year's star studded event included entertainment from the Top 10 American Idol finalists, Matchbox 20, Bret Michaels, Sinbad, and Kelly Clarkson, along with Kevin Costner and his band who performed at the after party. "The Greatest", Muhammad Ali, and his wife, Lonnie, were introduced by by Billy Crystal, and an award was presented to actress Halle Barry for her work on behalf of several charities.

Pageant titleholders worked at the silent auction and as VIP escorts. I really enjoyed meeting Lori Skutnik, recently-crowned Mrs. Arizona America, and Brittany Brannon,

Miss Arizona USA, who showed me the bling that she picked up in a recent trip to New York City!

A big "thank you" to Elisa Rister and Diane Ritter for including me in this exciting event!

America's 30s Meets With Delaware's Governor Markell

Yesterday, I went to Legislative Hall in Dover for a "Meet and Greet" session with Delaware Governor Jack Markell. It was such an honor to meet such a dynamic person who truly does cares about the individuals if our small but mighty state. It was also great to share my views and hear his strong passion for making education better for everyone (children to adults).

I would like to thank Governor Markell and his wonderful staff for this memorable opportunity and I look forward to sharing some time with Governor Markell at some upcoming events in the future.

This weekend I got to celebrate my Irish heritage at the 24th annual Tucson St. Patrick's Day Parade. Both human and canine participants had a wonderful time at this family event! One of the friskiest entries was the Southern Arizona's Beagle Rescue organization.

The 2011 Parade and Festival theme, “Everyday Heroes,” featured local, national and world personalities that have made a positive difference in the lives of those they touch. Honorary Grand Marshal was Dr. Peter Rhee, medical director of University Medical Center's trauma unit. Also honored was Daniel Hernandez Jr., Gabrielle Giffords' aide, who was credited with helping to save her life.

The 30th Anniversary Daffodils & Diamonds Luncheon & Fashion Show

What an amazing time I had yesterday modeling in the 30th Anniversary Daffodils & Diamond Fashion Show in Bethesda, MD. Thank you so much to Kevin Mohorn for inviting me to be a part of this show.

Upon arrival we were treated to fabulous hair and makeup services by the Christian Dior staff and spoke with the volunteers and coordinators about the outfits we would model. The selections varied from casual attire to formal wear.

We were able to not only walk the catwalk for a huge group of enthusiastic ladies but were also part of a grand finale where all the titleholders who modeled got to walk the runway in our banners with everyone cheering us on. The audience and staff made us truly feel like queens.

Official Application & Photograph Information

The national office recently received a few questions regarding the preliminary application process, official application materials and photograph requirements for competing in the 2011 pageant. We are posting the information here so you may have the most up to date and accurate answers to commonly asked questions.

What is the preliminary application and will the judges receive a copy of this form?
The Preliminary Application is for office use only. The judges will NEVER see this form. This form should be downloaded, handwritten and sent to the National Office via USPS with a recent photo and title deposit. Registered delegates will receive the Official Judges Form, it is the only form the judges will see.

What 'Official Forms and/or Photographs' are required for the pageant?

Registered delegates will receive the Official Judges Form electronically formatted which will allow you to complete it on a computer and forward back to the National Office via email. The form is in development right now, there was a glitch when we tested it so we are making sure it works correctly before we send it out. You will get a copy as soon as the bugs are worked out. This is the form that the judges will use during interview.

Registered delegates will need to provide ONE 5 x 7 color photo, printed vertically. This photo should be emailed to the National Office in a JPEG formal at a 300 dpi. This should be a head shot or head to shoulders photo, no hats, scarves, crowns or other accessories (other than earrings).

This photo will be attached to your Official Judges Form and will also be used for the photogenic portion of the competition. Please be sure this photo is recent and of professional quality.

Registered delegates are also required to provide ONE 8.5 x 11, full body color photo, via email, that best reflects your personality. This photo should be emailed to the National Office in a JPEG formal at a 300 dpi, printed vertically. With the exception of your preliminary application photo, ALL photos must be sent electronically.

Why am I asked for a full body photograph and how will it be used?
This photo will be used for the program book, blog, facebook, website, promotional materials, etc. This photo will NOT be considered for the photogenic portion of the competition, however, it will be seen by the judges after interview. The photogenic compeition ballots will be received and tallied before interview. The judges will NOT receive a copy of your full body photograph in the judges handbooks. Additionally, the judges will NOT have access to the program book (which will contain the full body photo) until after the photogenic and interview portion of the competition is over.

What kind of picture is Beauties of America looking for?

The full body photo should be something that reflects your personality, i.e., if you are a causal person who loves the outdoors, a photo of you in jeans and a top in an outdoor setting is great. If you would like to reflect a more sophisticated style, wearing a gown in a studio setting, that is fine too. It is up to you, let your personality shine. We want to promote the diverse beauty of the delegates.

What photograph will the judges receive?

Your required color headshot will be copied to your Official Judges Form.

Why?

With each delegate's picture on her judges form, this should eliminate any confusion and keep the judges focused on the right delegate. Last year is a good example of why this is important. A contestant was asked a question that was clearly not off her bio. Instead of trying to fake it, the contestant said that she was not a fitness instructor, then one of the other judges pointed out to the judge who asked the question, that she was on the wrong woman's bio.

Effective immediately, Beauties of America will focus exclusively on the divisions of 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s.

Wilmington Heart & Stroke Ball

Last night, I was honored to be a celebrity guest volunteer at the 2011 Wilmington Heart & Stroke Ballat the beautiful Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington, Delaware. Thank you so much to Krista Brazell, the co-chair of the event for this very special invitation.

The Wilmington Heart Ball is an annual black tie fundraising event where community members, medical professionals and corporate leaders come together to celebrate the lifesaving work of the American

Heart Association. The theme at this year's event was Casino Royale. Festivities included: gourmet dinner; silent & live auction; gaming tables & live music.

This unforgettable evening of fun, entertainment, glamour and hope was an experience that I am truly honored to have been a part of. I had the opportunity to not only greet many amazing individuals as they entered the beautifully decorated ballroom, but was also able to assist with sell raffle tickets and helping with the Silent Auction.

I look forward to coming back next year as this event and cause was something I would love to be a part of for many years to come.

Northwest Pageants A Reunion For Beauties of America Queens!

A reunion of Beauties of America national queens from three consecutive years happened at the Mrs. Oregon & Washington International pageants as reigning America's 40s Tamara Wissbaum, 2008 America's 50s Carol Milliron, and 2009 America;s 50s Debra Gilmour attended the first ever join state pageants. The ladies were joined by former state titleholders for Beauties of America making for a fun time for all!

Carol, a contest in the Mrs. Washington pageant who won the Fitness Award and finished as 1st Runner-Up, was cheered on by her fellow sister queens Tamara and Debra who are both former titleholders for of the Mrs. Oregon International crown. Also attending was outgoing Mrs. Oregon International Deanna Bebeau, 2009 Beauties Oregon's 40s, and contestant Amy Pludeman, 2010 Oregon's 30s.

When it comes to the northwest, Beauties of America was definitely well represented at this event. The ladies all had a great time enjoying each other's company and catching up, and looked as fantastic as ever!

America's 20s Jana Murrell has a busy month!

Panache- I was at the grand opening of the finishing school. The owner has about 5 rooms where the girls will learn different areas of ettiquete from a runway/stage area, to a formal dining room, a high tea room (like you have tea in england) a spa room, a fitness room. In the future I will be working with the girls who will be participating in the finishing school classes. One of the things I look forward to is talking to them about what a beauty queen does, help with demonstrations and guide the girls through lessons in posture, walking, or fitness.

Overtown festival fundraiser- I will be judging the Miss Overtown pageant in March. it is new and will be a USA prelim. the pageant is just one event during the festival. the fundraiser was to help raise money for all the events they will have during the festival weekend. The overtown area is historic, was once a very sought after place for people vacationiong. now they are revitalizing it.

Madison Middle School- These girls had never done a pageant before and were thinking about entering one. They wanted to know how pageant girls walked and stand and all that goes into competing for a pageant title. The group of 5-7 girls are involved in their school and its after school programs.

West Broward with BOA family- We had dinner afterwards and reflected back on BOA nationals in Myrtle Beach, and had fun talking about our upcoming FL BOA pageant. The theme is the 50's and the reigning FL queens have to wear an outfit from the 50s during the opening number :)

America's 40's Tamara Wissbaum Attends The OR, & WA Int'l Junior Miss Pageant

I had the pleasure of being an invited guest at the OR & WA International Junior Miss Pageant. The Oregon & Washington queens were so sweet, and such adorable young ladies. They each represented their state with such grace and dignity. They were so much fun to watch, and very talented.

Cheyenne, the Washington Pre-Teen queen had the honor of being crowned the IJM Pre-Teen

national title holder. Not only is she super sweet, she was so generous with her wardrobe with her sister queens. It was fun to see how they all interacted with each other too. The princess queens and contestants were all very enamored by the BOA crown. They each told me they wanted to grow up and win one of those crowns.

There was one special young lady I was rooting for in the Oregon Pre-Teen division. She is like a surrogate daughter to me. She won the Spokesmodel, Actress, Casual Wear, and Photogenic optional competitions. I was a proud "Auntie."

It wasn't her night to take home the crown, but she placed 1st runner-up, and was very happy for her "pageant sister," who did take home the crown. Madelyn will represent Oregon, in Nashville, in July for the International Junior Miss Pageant.

All of the young ladies that I met this weekend were so impressive, I see big things in their futures.

The ladies, who are all entering a pageant for the first time were thrilled to have a national titleholder come to give insight as to what each young woman may learn from participating, and all the fun that is in store for them!

Not everyone can go to Las Vegas for the Miss America Pageant, but that doesn't mean you can't get in on the fun! Jana Murrell joined fellow Floridian queens (including pictured left og Jana, Seila VItiello 2009 Florida's 50s) at a gathering the celebrate at a Miss America viewing party.

Crowns and sashes abounded as ladies from all different systems attended the event. The thrill of the night however was apparent on the face of this little girl as she got to try on the gorgeous Beauties of America national crown with a bit of help from Jana!
